Intersectional Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights Toolkit

Intersectional Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights Toolkit

Over the years, Youth Changers Kenya (YCK) has been at the forefront of advancing access to intersectional sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) information. By engaging and training key stakeholders including adolescents, young people, religious leaders, journalists, county health management teams (CHMTs), and members of county assemblies (MCAs), YCK has consistently worked to empower communities with vital SRHR knowledge.

To further support these efforts, YCK developed the Intersectional Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights Toolkit. This toolkit provides a clear training framework that uses participatory and creative approaches, offering practical resources contextual to each stakeholder group. It serves as a comprehensive guide for conducting impactful SRHR training sessions.

The toolkit has already demonstrated its effectiveness. To date, 147 stakeholders have been trained using this resource, and are now driving meaningful change in their communities. For example, young people trained with the toolkit are now actively participating in policy-making processes. Religious leaders have now integrated SRHR into their institutions and programs, leading to increased knowledge and uptake of SRHR services among adolescents and young people. At a recent youth summit organized by the Orthodox Church, 560 young people learned about contraception, consent, and safe sex practices.

Furthermore, young people have now cascaded the knowledge they gained, facilitating intergenerational dialogues, conducting civic education, and engaging in SRHR conversations within faith-based institutions. They are also involved in media advocacy and hold sessions on SRHR topics, including contraception, menstrual hygiene, and consent, both in and out of school.

We look forward to the continued use of this holistic toolkit and its positive impact on individuals and communities as we strive towards a violence-free society.
